Born into a family of engineers and carpenters, he learned knifemaking through an apprenticeship in master knifemaker A. Vilister's workshop.

He has been drawn to crafting since childhood. Like many boys, he dreamed of making a weapon, something sharp. At 12, he made swords: he took the steel pipes from a trampoline he had broken, hammered them flat and riveted on a cross-guard. Two years later, after seeing Rambo, he was on to a new project. He did the grinding with an angle grinder and the heat treatment in coals piled between a few stacked bricks, speeding up the fire with his mom's hair dryer. And so in no time, using only the tools found in a countryside household a big Bowie was created. That is where he knew he wanted to become a knifemaker. To get going with his own workshop after the apprenticeship, he sold his beloved dirtbike with a promise to get it back one day by selling knives.

He has had splinters in his fingers since childhood. During summer holidays in primary school, he began carving spoons in his grandmother's barn. From the age of 18, he learned the craft from several skilled masters, and furniture design became one of his core passions. Over the years he has run several joinery businesses, one of which made traditional longbows. Now, with 40 years of experience behind him, he has narrowed his work to making knife handles. He also makes the Peregrin's Saw.
